New analytical methods have been designed to support an objective quantitative
evaluation of geological components whose results dictate the lines for a sustainable
use of the natural resources. We tried to adopt the fundaments of the seascape concept,
based on the thematic elements of landscape ecology and translated into terms fitting
with the principles of coastal ecology. The seascape concept is central to our view
of the environment and is referred to as an integrated unit (Environmental Unit)
resulting from a long multidisciplinary approach, carried out in both the field and the
laboratory by an interdisciplinary team of experts.
