goat, Capra aegagrus Erxleben, 1777, stili found wild in western Asia (Harrison,
1968; Harrison an d Bates, 1991), and o n several islands of the Mediterranean basin.
In fact, these ungulates are stili reported from Crete (C a. eretica Schinz, 1838) (Fig.
5), the isle of Antimilos five marine miles off the north-western coast of Milos
(Cydades) (C a.pictus Erhard, 1858), and Yourain Northern Sporades (C a. dorcas
Reichenow, 1888 (Schultze-Westrum, 1963; Sfougaris, 1990; Ciani and Masseti,
