Proposal APERTURES. PART B Priority6.1.3.1.1.2 - FP6-2005-TREN-4 p 28 of 49
- to issue attestations and certificates and undertake supervision according to the Construction Act,
- to increase the competitive aptitude of cofounders and members of the institute by using the most up-to-
date technologies.
We are planning to build experimental facilities for energy conversion: a solar power station, micro turbine, wind
power station, fuel-cell and heat pump etc. on which we intend to conduct thorough research and studies of
economic authorization in our environment, with the predicted increase prices due to lack of energy.
It will have a privileged collaboration with one of his tutor the Elektro Maribor Company , which supplying
area includes northeast Slovenia and extends over 3992 km2. This company basic acticity includes:
- distribution of electrical energy (distribution network operater)
- electricity energy purchase and sale
- construction of electrical energy devices.
- network control and operation, network planning (low and medium voltage networks),
- network maintenance, writting connection approvals to customers and small electricity producers,
- power quality measurement, telecomunication system planning (for distribution system purposes), etc.
B.4.1 Sub-contracting:
Favignana site : Academic Subcontractors Italy
The project involves strong compentences in the fields of power electronics, electrical machines and drives, control
system, artificial intelligence, fuel cells technology and electrical measurements.
These competences are well spread over the different units in a complementary way.
However, to correctly develop the project, some other skills are needed which are specifically in the fields of
elecrical plants and management of energy and environment. These specific skills are not fully present in the
consortuim, therefore two subcontractors have been chosen.
With regard to the electrical plant skills, they are fully needed in the WP1 where the benchmarking of the
electrical grid of Favignana is needed. For this task the Electrical Plants group of the Department of Electrical,
Electronic and Telecomunication Engineering (DIEET) of the University of Palermo Italy has been chosen by
the consortium for their strong competences in the field of RES inpact versus the electrical grid and for their
closeness to the electrical grid of Favignana. This last aspect is also important, since in WP1 they will perform the
entire characterization of the existing electrical grid of the island of Favignana.
Moreover, their skills will be also necessary in WP3, where they will perform the formulation and resolution of a
“planning” problem at a centralized level for the optimal management of RES (Fuel cells, PV, wind genrators) and
electrical storage systems into the island of Favignana.
With regard to the management of energy and environment skills, they are needed only in WP1, where is
required both the creation of a wind and a solar map of the Favignana and the definition of the quantity of the ideal
overall generation power from renewable sources and its ideal location for the best exploitation of the sources
themselves, taking into consideration the stockage systems (Fuel cells and supercapacitors). With this regard, the
consortium has chosen the Department of Research on Energy and Environment (DREAM) of the University
of Palermo Italy, both for its strong competences in the field of prediction of energy generable from RES sources
and for its closeness to the island of Favignana.
