Appendix 1 Diagnostic sites in the alignment of 16S sequences of Triops cancriformis for the definition of the haplotype groups considered as
fixed factor for the statistical analyses of the morphological data. Haplotype groups were defined as subgroups of sequences sharing diagnostic
sites, without consideration of singletons. The population from Girona, northern Spain, was treated as a separate haplotype group (‘Northern
Spain’) to investigate a nonconcordance in the present classification of this population as T. c. simplex and genetic data, which suggests its
affiliation to T. c. cancriformis. For details on haplotype group specimens see Table 1.
