                Disturbed ground, road edges. – Exotic naturalized, first reported in Palermo by De Leo (1967).
                Very common in the Palermo area, and in the last few years also on the Tyrrhenian coast of
                Messina. Extending towards Southern Sicily throughtout large roads. – C.

                Cultivated as ornamental. – Common in gardens and parks along the coast.

                Cultivated in the past for the anthocyanin of the berries used as wine colouring. – Native to
                North-America, already cultivated and naturalized in large parts of the region. Palermo, Siracusa,
                Catania, Messina, Castrogiovanni (Gussone 1827); Noto: Cappuccini, S. Corrado di Fuori, al
                Fiume S. Nicola e all’Asinaro (Silipranti 1887). Confirmed from CN Sicily by Dia & Romano
                (1981). – NC.

                Ornamental and naturalized. – Grown wild only in Salina Island (Pignatti 1982). Cultivated
