               It includes several varieties that are often examples of environmental adaptation: such as A. elon-
               gata Guss. – Nitrophilous, but capable to adapt in different environments: muddy and clayey
               ground, as well as  sandy lands near the sea. –– Very common in Sicily; less frequent in muddy
               ground. Palermo ai Ficarazzi, Bagheria, Mondello, Brolo, Messina, Catania, Siracusa,
               Spaccaforno, Comiso alla Berdia, Girgenti, Trapani, Mazzara, Saline, Marettimo (Gussone 1845:
