Phagnalon rupestre subsp. illyricum var. metlesicsii (Pignatti) Domina & Giardina comb.
& stat. nov. [Bas. P. metlesicsii Pignatti in Giorn. Bot. Ital. 103: 293 (1969)].
A variant of probable monogenic origin within the subsp. illyricum.
Silene saxifraga subsp. lojaconoi (Lacaita) Mazzola & Raimondo stat. nov. [Bas. S. saxi-
fraga L. var. lojaconoi Lacaita].
Taxon scattered and isolated in comparison to the population on the Apennines.
Sixalix cephalarioides (Lojac.) Giardina & Raimondo comb. nov. [Bas. Scabiosa
cephalarioides Lojac., Flora Sicul. 2(1): 42 (1903)]
Spergularia madoniaca Lojac. in Fl. Sic. 3: 431 (1909)
Lectotypus selected here on the specimen “Madonie, ‘Spergularia minutissima (nom.
inval.), Piano Catagidebbi’, s.d., M. Lojacono specimen unicum extra reliquia parte
in involucro contenta (PAL)”.
Annual, not glandulose; slightly distinct from S. radicans C.Presl.
Tanacetum vulgare subsp. siculum (Guss.) Raimondo & Spadaro stat. nov.
[Bas.Tanacetum vulgare var. siculum Guss., Fl. Sicul. Syn. 2:455 (1844); Syn.
Tanacentum siculum (Guss.) Strobl in Flora 65:241 (1882).
Tolpis virgata subsp. sexaristata (Biv.) Giardina & Raimondo comb. & stat. nov. [Bas.
Tolpis sexaristata Biv., Monogr.: 11, tab. 2 (1809); Syn. Tolpis virgata (Desf.) Bertol.
var. sexaristata (Biv.) Fiori, Nuova Fl. Anal. Ital. 2 (5): 785 (1927); T. virgata Lojac.
(1903)].
Tolpis virgata subsp. gussonei (Fiori) Giardina & Raimondo stat. nov. [Bas. Tolpis virga-
ta (Desf.) Bertol. var. gussonei Fiori in Fiori & Paoletti, Fl. Anal. Ital. 3 (2): 391
(1904); Syn. Tolpis gussonei (Fiori) Brullo ?nom. inval.; T. grandiflora Guss.
non Ten.].
Tolpis virgata subsp. quadriaristata (Biv.) Giardina & Raimondo stat. nov. [Bas. T. qua-
driaristata Biv., Monogr.: 9 (1809); Syn. T. virgata var. quadriaristata (Biv.) Fiori].
Two of the above mentioned Tolpis taxa, were first described as independent species
by Bivona (1810) and all were later treated as varieties or mere forms. In our opinion
they deserve subspecific rank.
Tragopogon crocifolius subsp. nebrodensis (Guss.) Raimondo comb. & stat. nov. [Bas.
T. nebrodensis Guss., Fl.Sicul. Syn. 2(1):384 (1844)].
This taxon is too slightly distinct to be treated at species rank. Its most suitable rank is
therefore the subspecific as far T. porrifolius subsp. cupani. On the other land T. croci-
folius doubtfully reported from the Etna could comfirm the hypotesis that a sole taxon
related to T. crocifolius is occurring in Sicily, viz., T. crocifolius subsp. nebrodensis.
Visnaga crinita (Guss.) Giardina & Raimondo comb. nov. [Bas. Ammi crinitum Guss. in
Pl. Rar.: 128 (1826)].
According to Reduron & al. (1997), the Gussone’s taxon is adequately placed in
Visnaga Mill.
