Only two small populations are known in Messina (Canale Inglesi e Lago Ganzirri): to be veri-
fied to which of the three taxa they are referring to. – Dry pastures, fields. – Messina al Faro e
alla Lanterna (Gussone 1827); Avola (Bianca) (Gussone 1845: 790); Noto (Silipranti 1887),
genus to be examined; Milazzo, Bagheria a Fondachelli, Lampedusa (Lojacono 1889); Pantani
Capo Passero (Lopriore 1900); Mare Grosso dietro il Forte Don Bosco presso Messina (Blanc)
(Nicotra 1904); Villa Florio di Favignana (Di Martino & Trapani 1967); Palermo e Messina

Oak and beech-woods on rich ground. – Reported by Albo (1905: sub C. fabacea Pers.) for the
Madonie Mountains at Portella di Maurigi, Bosco Pomieri and Mandarini “in terreno umoso”.
Confirmed for the Madonie Mountains at Carbonara by Raimondo & al. (2004). Albo’s record
has been quoted by Fiori (1924: 637), treated as doubtful by Pignatti (1982) and Greuter & al.
(1989). Further survays are needed. – ?RR.
