Objectives: the characterization of the site of Favignana from both the energetic and electrical point of view.
Energetic point of view: (this WP will be done in Maribor too, but as it has been done before, it will be reassessed )
· identification of the overall renewable resources (solar and wind) available in Favignana.
· creation of a wind and a solar map of the island.
· analysis of new technologies to interface single and multiple renewable energy sources and to trace an “eco-profile” of such
technologies. + tracing of “eco-profile” RES technologies
Electrical point of view:
· characterization of the electrical grid of the island of Favignana.
· measurement of the load diagram of the island, on a monthly basis, during a one year period.
· definition of the quantity of the ideal overall generation power from renewable sources and its ideal location for the best
exploitation of the sources themselves, taking into consideration the stockage systems (Fuel cells and supercapacitors)
· choice of the actual solar and wind generation power units on the basis of the constraints of the local authorities due to the
landscape and environmental impact
· Identification of significant environmental indicators in order to monitor and estimate the environmental performances of
the proposed solutions.
Description of work : Mains tasks
Approach: This work will be organized in two parallel ways with the aid of two subcontractors:
Task 1.1: (M1 to M 9) Identification of the overall renewable resources (solar and wind) available in Favignana, for their
consequent employment for electric energy production. An analysis of the wind speed and direction as well as the intensity of
the solar radiation will be done all over the island of Favignana so to create respectively a wind and a solar map of the island.
This task will be done by the subcontractor DREAM.
Task 1.2 : (M1 to M 9) Electrical model: At the same time, the electrical model of the network of Favignana will be defined
exactly: from the generation system (currenly only Diesel based) to the Medium/Low voltage transformers and finally to the
peripheral load. Then, the load diagram of the island will be measured on a monthly basis, during a one year period, to know
exactly the electrical energy consumption of the entire island both in Summer and Winter. This task will be done by the
subcontractor DIEET.
Task 1.3 : (M9 to M 12) On the basis of the retrieved load diagram, of the topology and characterization of the electrical
network as well as the wind and solar maps, the quantity of the ideal overall generation power from renewable sources will
be devised as well as its ideal location for the best exploitation of the sources themselves. Afterwards, the real amount of
power from renewable sources to be installed and their real location will be defined, on the basis of the availability of the
territory as well as the constraints of the local authorities due to the landscape and environmental impact. the same time, the
“eco-profile” of RES technologies will be traced, and therefore the environmental performances of the proposed solutions will
be evaluated. This task will be done together by ISSIA, DIEET and DREAM.
Task 1.4 : (M10 to M 12) On the basis of the obtained results, the various parts of electrical grid which behave like
microgrids will be identified and consequently the different points of common coupling (PCC) between the DG generators
and the existing electrical grid through multi-source converters will be assessed together with the corresponding power
supplied locally by DG generators.
Deliverables
