               al. 1983); Nebrodi in Contrada Scavioli!, Biviere di Cesarò!, Monti di Alcara li Fusi (Raimondo
               & al. 1994). Usually in small populations, common in the Tassita where dense monospecific
               clusters are frequent. – R.

            66. Ephedra fragilis Desf., Fl. Atlant. 2: 372 (1799) [incl. E. altissima Desf. + “E. clusii”
               sensu Lojac., non Dufour]
               Beaches, sea dunes and in the inland on fossil dunes and red grounds. – Quite common along
               the coastal belt between Capo Passero and Butera, less common between Butera and Trapani.
               Rare in the Sciare of Marsala! and Mazara! Capo Bonagia! M. Cofano in the rocks and near
               Martogna (Ponzo 1900: sub  E. fragilis). The populations of Castellammare, S. Vito and M.
               Cofano are to be verified according to Lojacono (1904: sub E. altissima + E. clusii et Gussone
               1845: sub E. fragilis). – NC.

               ex Guss.]
               Cliffs and rocky mountain slopes. – Madonie Scalamadaggio, Colma Grande, Vallata che scende
               sopra le Favare di Isnello (Gussone 1845); M. Cuccio, Madonie nella Valle Atrigni, sopra le
               Favare di Isnello,  Valata Reale, Scalamadaggio, Colma Grande (Lojacono 1904). Adamović
               (1933) reports it only from the Madonie Mountains. – RR.

               Cliffs and mountain rocky slopes. – Reported doubtfully by Lojacono (1904: 399) for the single
               locality  of Mt. Cuccio on a specimen lacking of female flowers. It is to be probably excluded –
               ?RR.

               Coastalbeaches; stable dunes. – Marina di Caronia, di S. Stefano, ?Terranova (an Torrenova)
               sotto S. Agata, rupi di Capo Milazzo (Tineo) (Gussone 1845); Messina (Lojacono 1904); Capo
               Calavà, Olivieri, Patti, Naso (Nicotra & Campagna 1908); Capo Rama, M. S. Giuliano
               (Raimondo & al. 2004). Endangered on disturbed ground along the coast. – RR.

            69. Salix ×rubens Schrank, Baier. Fl. 1: 226 (1789) [S. fragilis L. var. sicula Strobl]
               Mountain wet woods. –Strobl (1881) considered it an indipedent taxon. According to Martini &
               Paiero (1988) the hybrid S. alba × fragilis. – On the Madonie Mountains but to be studied from
               the systematic and taxonomic points of view. ?D: Salina (Lojacono 1904); ?D: Vizzini (Turrisi
               1999), to be verified. – RR.
